Full-time, 80 hours per pay period. Pediatric Nurse Practitioner is preferred; Family Nurse Practitioner with Pediatric experience and passion would be considered.

This role will be part-time with Child's Voice and part-time with a community program serving children in a unique partnership with the city health department.

Position Summary: A nurse practitioner (NP) is an advanced practice registered nurse who provides patient care to children and young adults, through assessment, diagnosis, treatment and evaluation of care. The NP working with patients at Child's Voice focuses on caring for children with special needs related to abuse, both sexual and physical. This may include sexual abuse exams in the clinic setting, hospital setting and/or the emergency department. The NP may represent his/her findings in a court of law. The NP consults with other members of the team involved in the care of these patients. The NP will work under the direction of the supervising physician from Child's Voice. Must be able to apply knowledge obtained in an approved program for NPs. Clinical experience in expanded role in pediatrics necessary. Prefer experience in child advocacy work, with specialized knowledge in regard to sexual and physical abuse of children. Has a high degree of discriminate judgment in assessing the needs of the pediatric patient and the family. Ability to communicate with patients, family members and members of the health care team. Ability to document clearly and communicate in writing as well as verbally. Ability to solve problems. Self motivated. Works with little direction. Ability to incorporate teaching/learning principles and adapt teaching to children and families. Ability to facilitate growth and implement projects when necessary. The RN functions within the scope and standards of nursing practice as outlined in the South Dakota Nurse Practice Act and Administrative Rules. The Sanford Nursing Practice recognizes the Scope and Standards of Practice (2004) and the Code of Ethics for Nurses with Interpretive Statements (2001) as published by the American Nurses Association as the foundation for nursing care delivery. When students are providing patient care, treatment, and/or services as a part of their training, any/all employees may be asked to supervise the students. Education/Experience: Graduation from a NLN or AACN accredited nursing program is strongly preferred. Graduate from an approved nursing program is acceptable. Bachelor's Degree in nursing preferred.
Required Skills

Required Credentials (Licensure/Certification) Certified by the National Certification Board of Nurse Practitioners and Nurses (NCB) or American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) as a NP. Currently licensed with the applicable State Nursing Board and/or possess multistate licensure privileges as required by position.

Must have successfully completed a formal nurse practitioner program of study beyond the basic RN role specific to their specialty area of practice. This program includes academic science and clinical experiences specific to their specialty, graduating with a minimum of a Masters Degree (those who have obtained APRN licensure prior to 2000 will be grandfathered in). Must be currently licensed to practice as a Certified Nurse Practitioner in the state of South Dakota or an eligible graduate with an approved temporary permit as granted by the Joint Board of South Dakota Medical and Osteopathic Examiners and the South Dakota Board of Nursing.
